He moved to Hollywood as a child and later served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, where he reached the rank of Sergeant before being honorably discharged. After his military service, he pursued acting, attending the American Conservatory Theater where he studied alongside notable actors such as Annette Bening. Roberts has appeared in over 200 co-starring and guest roles in film and television over a career spanning more than 30 years.
